A New Start

At the end of November we decided that we were going to move to New York City. The only question Brandon had for me was, "When can you go?" "End of January?" I told him with a little hesitation, because let face it, that was a short time away. "Sounds great," he said. So began a whirlwind of holidays, parties, packing, selling, and good-byes. After all that was over we hopped on a train, then a plane, into a car and finally a bed to begin our new lives in NYC. For now we are living on Long Island as we begin our 1st adventure, apartment hunting. I imagine there will be a few posts upcoming on the apartment hunt. Or maybe we will get insanely lucky and the first apartment we see will be the perfect place.
To start the apartment hunt process we first needed to decide on what neighborhood we wanted to live in. We knew we wanted to be in Manhattan, because, for one, it's Manhattan, the most amazing city in the world! And two it was the best location for us both for work.
I am responsible for covering all three of NYC's airports: JFK in Brooklyn, La Guardia (LGA) in Queens and Newark in New Jersey (yes, in a completely different state!) And Brandon is starting a business and needs to get around the whole island for meetings. To begin with we started looking at subway lines. What lines did we need to be on? What neighborhoods did they go through? How expensive are those neighborhoods? What kind of things are nearby? It seemed that the combinations were endless. We would decided one subway line was perfect but it was in a neighborhood that we weren't very excited about. Another line would be great for getting to JFK, but horrible for getting to LGA. We have finally decided that we are going to focus our search on the Upper West Side. That's the entire west side of the island from the south side to the north side of Central Park. I feel confidant that we will be able to find our perfect little (and I mean little) apartment in this three square mile area.
We are taking today off to rest, watch some Downton Abbey, and plan our strategy. More on that later. Tomorrow we will hit the ground running and our adventure will begin!

Welcome, Bienvenidos, Willkommen, Bine Ai Venit

Greetings! I'm glad you found me here in my new corner of the world. Maybe you have followed some of my previous blogs, maybe we have known each other since grade school. However you have arrived here I am glad you did. I've embarked on a great new adventure, living in New York City!
For those of you who are new to me, a short background:
I was born and raised in Tennessee. I love to travel. Moved to Montana after college and worked in beautiful Big Sky for 5 years before taking a job with a major airline to be a flight attendant. I love to travel. Moved to Seattle to fly the friendly skies. I love to travel. Met an amazing fella while flying (as a passenger :-)) from NYC to Seattle. I love to travel. Grew quite fond of said fella, decided we both had been wanting to live in NYC and here we are. I love to travel. Literally, we landed at JFK yesterday after moving out of our apartment on Monday. Follow my adventures in NYC and in the air as I explore both the city and the world.
Oh, and I love to travel.
